The impersonal manner with which big tech firms like Google, Meta, Salesforce, and Amazon laid off their employees marks the beginning of these firms’ Twilight phase. You don’t dismiss 20 year veterans of your company with an automated email without creating moral injury, for both laid off employees and, more impactfully, for those left behind.
