#FullTextSearch will help if/when implemented (on an opt-in basis of course), & understanding what your own server 'sees' is important too.
It's v helpful if people ask about the limitations they encounter, & those who have better experience explain how!

Trying out the Tooots app (yes, that’s 3 /o/s). It’s did. have Metatext. So far, I love the extra info it gives me on my iPhone. The iPad version was a bust and wouldn’t even let me login. Wind and solar ARE available now and in many places are the cheapest per-kw-hr option, their deployment is accelerating, batteries are following close behind, and all three technologies, unlike nuclear, are on a #LearningCurve, meaning their costs will continue to fall with each doubling of production.

For details, I’d highly recommend that podcast interview linked above, or Harvey and Gills’ book The Big Fix, or Saul Griffith’s Electrify!

@alan I definitely recommend following more people. I would also suggest following hashtags that you find interesting or newsworthy. For example, the past week I've been tracking these hashtags: #Speaker #SpeakerOfTheHouse #HouseOfRepresentatives

There are others related to those that also pulled up interesting comments and posts.

It takes a bit of work here to build up an interesting feed -- but that work will pay off.

1) discoverable (incl by power users who may use #Covid + #Australia etc)
2) #hashtag best practice with #CamelCase
Then
3) explore by #hashtag to find other relevant commentators when they arrive, & boost each other accordingly
4) compare notes on ease-of-use solutions, challenges, wishlist.
The #fediverse works differently & I am on the lower slopes of a #LearningCurve for this worthwhile endeavour!

My spouse joined #Mastodon and is #overwhelmed. He joined and pretty much left immediately though his account is till there, and I'm trying to convince him to stick it out, the #learningCurve sucks but it is worth it.

I think the transition for #Twitter / #BirdSite / #TwitterMigration people is really hard, particularly if you aren't super interested in the technicality of it all. Mastodon offers many interesting timelines but that can overwhelm #newuser very easily.

Trying to get him to just install #Tusky and stick with it.

Hmm, I've set any pictures I post to be marked as sensitive by default. But now I've found that people can choose to have all pictures hidden or, on the other hand sensitive content automatically shown. I think this makes my marking everything sensitive as overkill.
