Trying out #Tootle on my #Librem5.

With a few small bumps, managed to get the #Librem5 booting into a #Mobian installer, and installed with an encrypted rootfs!

So far, only have #Dino configured, but that is enough for this to be a hugely useful communications device, especially with #JMPchat to connect up to telephony networks!

Love the kill switches for cellular modem, wifi/bluetooth and camera/mic!

This is my first #Debian #Trixie based computer, as there may be issues with the now-stable #Bookworm on this hardware.

Reflashing my #Librem5 now. Let's see how it goes. 🤞

Oh great, I've updated my #Librem5 and it now won't boot anymore.

So this is what you get for *checks note* $1,299 - a black brick that does nothing.

I now need to go through reflash procedure.

Another thing I forgot to mention regarding #LinuxMobile cameras: #kde s Kamoso also supports rotations for a while now. The image is taken with the #Flatpak version. It thus joins an increasing number of mobile-camera-ready apps like Snapshot, Authenticator, Decoder, and (once the next release happens) @dino

Rotation support is required to display the image correctly on devices like the #PinePhonePro, #PinePhone or - hopefully soon - #Librem5

Haven't seen anyone posting this yet, so I figured I'll share it: during our recent Gnome Mobile hackfest we got the experimental #libcamera pipeline handler for the #purism #Librem5 to work and make a video call with @dino. There were still some serious issues we didn't have time to debug any more - but hey, it's something :)

I'm confused about @Purism latest blog post

GNOME Shell is already there. Why waste (precious?) resources.

Don't get me wrong, Phosh is great and works better on older devices but GNOME Shell is awesome on all devices that Purism ships.

Just to clarify: this will work on any device with #libcamera support. Hoping to try this soon on the #Librem5 !

#Purism delivered my #Librem5 yesterday, 44 months after my order. I haven't had this much delayed gratification since Italy won the World Cup again in 2006…

A bunch of other distros are also close, including #alarm and #Mobian. And other devices like the #Librem5 will hopefully follow soon as well.

This is all without downstream patches (besides in the kernel...), so if you use a different distro which does not ship a working stack yet, please help us by checking what needs to be done and opening issues - and please reach out to me if you need help! :)

For people using a #linuxPhone or a *native* Fediverse app on desktop, is there one that is nice and actively developed? (preferably GUI but I'm open to TUI)
I'm especially interested if it handles multi-accounts well.
I've mostly seen #Tootle, Gnome-Social and #Tokodon.
Unfortunately the 1st two don't seem active, I've also seen Toot (TUI) but the fact that toot(le) also refer to iOS apps does not help in finding relevant information...

Just so you are not surprised, the #mntreform is not exactly what I would call a *small* laptop, at least on one axis it is a bit bulky.

All the other features you describe are pretty much spot on, and a few other niceties; notably modular replaceable parts and a wide DC input range!

The boot #firmware requires some DDR initialization blobs, though, so unfortunately not likely able to be fully integrated into #Debian. The #librem5 has the same issue.
