@gutenberg_org @internetarchive 🥥 I did NOT know about the #LibriVox free #audiobook online collection. 🥥
@CommonMugwort oh do I have a treat for you! 100 chapters of excellence! https://librivox.org/the-way-we-live-now-by-anthony-trollope/ I love Debra’s voice and the way she narrates. She makes me think of a favorite aunt reading to me. I’ve probably listened to this audiobook at least ten times, no joke. And Trollope can’t be beat! For a 19th century gentleman, he writes with remarkable sympathy and understanding for women. I love Trollope and this is a HUGE favorite!! #bookstodon #librivox
@secretsloth it absolutely does work! You listening to my voice from the past connects us through time and space 🥰
I was just thinking about that book a few days ago. It’s a good one. If you want even more humor, try Helen’s Babies http://librivox.org/helens-babies-by-john-habberton/ Once you get through the rather tedious intro and finally meet Budge and Toddie, you’re in for a hilarious time 😁 #Audiobooks #LibriVox
@secretsloth @madgeface Oh I want to recommend two of my favorite (not narrated by me) #librivox #audiobooks. I’ve listened to them both countless times:
https://librivox.org/the-way-we-live-now-by-anthony-trollope/ (narrator sounds like a favorite aunt. I LOVE HER. For a Victorian gentleman, Trollope really knows how to write believable, interesting women)
And this book is a gem. We have two versions; I prefer this narrator’s sweet, gentle voice: https://librivox.org/the-enchanted-april-by-elizabeth-von-arnim/ #bookstodon

🇦🇺 The Seven Little Australians audiobook has passed 150K downloads on Librivox! 🇦🇺
Wow. I was a significantly younger person then, but I still remember how much fun it was to record a whole book, *by myself*. The sad chapter at the end still gets me, every single time 😢. It must have taken 100 takes to get that one right.

A few days ago I started listening to a #LibriVox recording of #NicholasNickleby. I figure I'll finally get through it by the time spring arrives, if I stick to it through to the end.
Seeing someone refer to Mastadon as "Mast" reminded me that I'd been meaning to download the #LibriVox #audiobook edition of "Two Years Before the Mast," which I don't think I have read since eighth or ninth grade ... didn't even think of it when I was writing for a boating magazine for a living and singing sea chanteys at the #GriswoldInn for fun.
Funny how the mind works sometimes...

Browsing a "list your favorite authors for #bookstadon" thread ("chorus"? "arpeggio"?) sent me off looking for #LibriVox references ...
So many parts of my online life that haven't turned up here in the Fediverse ...
Speaking of #utopian #communities, online or otherwise, have you read "Looking Backward: 2000–1887," published 1888 by Edward Bellamy? #EdwardBellamy probably not trending.
But the book's on Librivox. Great to fall asleep to. Links here:

For anyone who loves #AudioBooks (or anyone interested in lending their voice to one), I highly recommend checking out #LibriVox (https://librivox.org/). LibriVox is a project/service that provides free, public domain audiobooks. The books are recorded by #volunteers and made available on the LibriVox website. They have over 17,000 in their catalog so far. Additionally, the Internet Archive ( @internetarchive ) has a collection dedicated to the LibriVox recordings: https://archive.org/details/librivoxaudio

#PDX I make #audiobooks for #LibriVox. Wear a mask and don’t be a racist. #knitting, #reading, #sewing, #FiberArts, curious person. Interested in #history, #MentalHealth, #arts, #archaeology, #anthropology, #linguistics in general and especially the history of English. I speak some #German, am learning #Finnish on #duolingo.
Love #StrictlyComeDancing, #Taskmaster, #GBBO, #TheArchers. Chronically ill with #PAH. Super-introverted but I think people, in general, are wonderful!

And now the Internet Archive, host of #LibriVox’s server, forum, blog, and audiofiles, is here! 👋 @internetarchive
@sawadsworth i discovered E. Nesbit via Edward Eager’s wonderful books, each of them an homage to Nesbit’s magic books. I recorded Railway Children for #LibriVox, having never read it before! Wonderful.
@Jen Yes, I helped to create librivox.org and have recorded hundreds of books for them. I was a super-admin there until ill health forced me to step down, alas. Username kayray, of course! I also have a selection of casual “personal use” audiobooks, mainly children’s literature, at my blog. I too am an absolutely voracious listener, all day and a lot of the night. My #LibbyApp and my #Scribd subscription are my constant companions! (Not many psychological thrillers at #LibriVox 😁)
@scott96 I love Dracula so much, I recorded it for #LibriVox https://librivox.org/dracula-by-bram-stoker-2/ 😍 My dad read it aloud to my sister and me when we were teenagers, so it’s hugely sentimental to me
