I went to the Montrose Harbor Bird Sanctuary this morning. #Chicago #Birding

The Grackles were pissing off the Robins. The Red-Winged Blackbirds were everywhere and loud. I saw a fat and happy Cardinal. Mallard couples were wandering around the the woods (possibly looking for nests?)

The big big thing was I saw several Northern Flickers. They are big and brownish yellow and and they have big white rumps that are visible only when they fly around. I was so excited. #LifeList.

Smallest in the world. Like some human Texans, flies to Mexico for winter break.

so this weekend I at last got my 200th bird species on my #LifeList! I didn't even have to go anywhere because they came right to my feeder. Purple Finches :)

Today in nerdy bird news:

On our afternoon dog walk I saw a male rufous-sided towhee and a male varied thrush!!! :D Two beautiful birds!

I've seen a towhee before, but it was many years go. I think this is my first time seeing a varied thrush…?
