People really like living near #PublicTransport that isn’t loud or smelly and avoids the clogged up streets. Sorry #Buses, you’re good and all but you’re still stuck in traffic while the #LightRail boops on past.

Do kiwis not realise that the only problem with #LightRail is it being Too Popular, increasing property values near the stops, and needing more frequent services because so many people use it?

Something that isn’t mentioned nearly enough with light rail is the accessibility it can provide. This sort of level boarding is fairly easy to do with light rail and very difficult with buses and impossible with cars. #transit #lightrail #accessibility Perfectly level with a gap 1cm at most. I’ve been on lifts with bigger gaps and steps.

Yesterday I saw a two-car REM train testing on the new track. Apparently the opening of the REM (new #LightRail system in #Montreal) is once again delayed... Look, for-profit #PublicTransport can work - it does work in Japan - but that requires diverse experience (be it the transportation itself, adjacent fields like real estate, and soft skills like management) and good ethics, something investment funds are not willing to try to build as they are blindes by the short-term cost...
