`The lovely #Tuag had caught the eye of the god of the sea, #Manannán Mac Lir. As his emissary his bard Fer Í disguised himself a woman and crept into the chambers of #Tuag, where the dwarf sang a lullaby so potent that she fell into a dreamless sleep. Continuing to sing to the girl, Fer Í hoisted her onto his shoulders and carried her away. Later, exhausted from carrying her strong body on his small shoulders, he set her down while he rested. Unfortunately, he chose his resting place poorly, for the waters of the Bann River rose and carried Tuag away, drowning her. She may be the goddess of the Bann River. Its estuary, Tuag Inber, bears her name.`

#Aoife could not bring herself to kill her husband's children, such as she could not have with him because of her infertility. She transformed the #ChildrenofLir into beautiful swans and left them their melodious voices.
Enchanted by Bodb Derg into an air demon, #Aoife watched over the fate of the #ChildrenofLir from the shadows.

The #ChildrenofLir, Fionnula, Fiachra, Aodh and Conn, were turned into swans by their stepmother #Aoife out of jealousy. They had to live on Lough Derravaragh, in the Straits of Moyle and on Inishglora for 300 years each.
Aoife was jealous of her fostersister #Aeb, who got #Lir as a husband, although Aoife loved this king dearly. And then #Aeb gave birth to the lovely Children of Lir while Aoife was barren.
Aoife was also jealous of the Children of Lir because her husband loved them more than her. She became ill with jealousy, which put her in the sickbed for a year. During this time, the plan to get rid of the children, that she loved like her own, developed.
Aoife didn't have the heart to kill the Children of Lir. She turned them into beautiful swans and left them their melodious voices.
Enchanted by Bodb Derg into an air demon, Aoife watched over the fate of the Children of Lir from the shadows.
