Things no one tells you about being a : the sheer amount of time you will try to find specific polite ways to describe degrees of potty humor. There should be some sort of scale:

0. No one has a gastrointestinal tract in this story
1. Farts and poop exist and we'll let the reader decide if they're funny
2. Farts and poop exist and are funny
3. Farts and poop are the pinnacle of humor
4. Farts and poop are funny, but secondary to plot
5. Farts and poop are funny and integral to the plot, but there's also true character development

As I get further along in my publishing journey, there's one thing that really confuses me, and honestly just seems like gatekeeping to me. I can understand why magazines like Shun Manuscript format, but it seriously doesn’t make sense for literary agents and publishers to request things in Shun manuscript format. Here's why.

Your book is going to be edited at least three times before it goes on sub. Maybe twice. In all honesty, your publisher doesn’t need it in Shun manuscript format because the editors at your publisher will format the whole thing for you. I don't understand why agents and publishers ask for stuff in Shun Manuscript format, and they require things to be so precise. It honestly feels like unnecessary elitism and gatekeeping to me, but maybe my fault is that I can't see why having chapters start half way down the page is helpful. I don't understand why it visually looks better for the start of paragraphs to be indented 0.5 inches from left. I understand double spacing. The rest doesn’t make sense to me.

Trust me, your agent and even publisher will format the book for you so, agents and publishers, why not have simpler instructions, like this?

Make sure all chapter titles are heading level 1 or heading level two styles. Use a readable font like Verdana. Size quite literally doesn’t matter because, trust me, your book is going to be edited anyway.

I mean, Let’s be real. Is it really that difficult for you as a non-disabled editor to change the font size? There are a ton of Disabled writers out here that get hung up by formatting. You say you want to make it easier so why do you, agents and publishers, have these silly precise requirements rather than judging the work?

I send my stuff in with Shun format. Why must other writers do the same when submitting to publishers and agents?

I had to share this: 95 hours into my fast and listening to recordings by before my call with my and BAM - Something "clicked" in my head and heart:

"I'm gonna fuckin' SMASH my former longest fasting record of just over 100 hours & go WAY beyond it as I drop the last 30 pounds!"

I want EVERYONE to feel breakthrough moments like THIS!

Back to my . Much love! See you soon.

"It may cost me everything, but in the end, I'll know I did it MY way. That's got to stand for something...I suppose that's entirely up to me."

- A thought of mine while pondering this journey just now on the last day of 2022.

Breat time at work, going over notes from my first Zoom call with my co-writer, editor and Robert Yehling.

This memoir is now my obsession - It MUST be for it to be as compelling and powerful as it can possibly be for every single person who reads it. I'll stop at nothing to bring a masterpiece to my beloved readers!
