A bit OT, but would like to mention that Li is toxic at typical doses in ppl w/ multiple system atrophy.

So far I've not come across an explanation, but study of Li toxicity in MSA might lead to a better understanding of disease mechanisms. I suspect there might be a connection with glycine & heme.

Der Abbau würde nachweislich das Trinkwasser in der Region vergiften. Zeitgleich finden Lehrer*innenstreiks gegen ein völlig unzureichendes Lohnangebot statt, die mit Straßenblockaden und Großdemonstrationen die Hauptstadt der Region in Beschlag nahmen. Die Regionalregierung hat daraufhin versucht, die Proteste zu kriminalisieren und unter Polizeiaufgebot zu verbieten. Doch das hat sie noch mehr angefacht, beide Kämpfe haben sich gegen die Regierung vereint. "

Researchers in Germany have developed a "mechanochemical" grinding process that they used to recover 75% of lithium from lithium-ion batteries.

Right now this technology is just at the "proof of concept" stage but researchers are looking to refine the process and explore the possibility of extracting cobalt and nickel from batteries at the same time.
