@SRLevine Replacing the panes with tempered glass might help. The downside is that tempered glass is significantly heavier.

(Having had a Basset Hound shatter a front porch window when she saw another dog walking past the house, I replaced the pane with tempered glass. It's too heavy to lift, but I can still open other windows out of her reach on the porch.)

The sofa has BOTH a slipcover AND one of those sofa covers meant for dogs because a previous Basset Hound was a nester and would pull up the sofa cover with his paws and start scratching the sofa upholstery. (We ended up with a new sofa three years ago.)

@jwynia Household tip: Cheap sheets. I have two wing chairs covered with inexpensive twin sheet sets. The fitted sheet over the cushion. The flat sheet over the back and arms of the chair. Sheets are washed weekly and are removed from the chairs only when company is coming.
