There’s just one of the swiftlets left on the nest here in #LlantwitMajor. There have been three young birds this year, and this was the smallest of the brood. In past years, the nest was a much larger jumble of grasses and feathers, but they’ve cleared it out this year, so that only the nest-form remains. Transport for Wales have a fleet of new trains, but I haven’t been on one yet - they’re not running out to #LlantwitMajor yet. Let’s see if my luck is in. My constant companion today is, of course, #RealTimeTrains which usually lists the rolling stock. Not this time tho. 6/n

At last, after a long wait, our swifts (Apus apus) are back. Here in the UK, these birds are in critical decline. Ours arrived ten? years ago nesting in a hole in the eaves. The eves got repaired, so we added three nest boxes. Here’s the central box hosting a pair of birds. Their screams are the essence of summer. #Swifts #LlantwitMajor #Cymru #Wales

The journey to my office Christmas Party begins. Because of the UK train strike, I’m starting an odyssey to Cardiff by bus. First off, #LlantwitMajor to #Cowbridge

This is not news, it’s been said before, but every time I look at train prices, it’s a reminder of how broken it is. Here’s a couple of snaps of the ticket machine prices at #LlantwitMajor station. For a group of four to travel to Cardiff (40minutes) is £5.90 each return, on the “small group” rate. I’ve attached the car parking rates for St David’s in Cardiff. It is no surprise that car is king in this part of the world. #trains #TransportForWales
