They were queuing up at Wilmslow Community Market Gardens first ever stall at the town’s market last month! 🥕🍅🥦
Transition Wilmslow is working towards a ring of gardens around the town growing much of its fruit and veg, and this gave them a new outlet to get the fresh, local, organic food to people.
They also have a stall at their Oakenclough garden at a local children’s centre, and this month, they’re working with a local chef to run ‘plot to plate’ sessions with local families – harvesting straight from the allotment and cooking it up in tasty dishes on the day.
It’s funded by a Transition Together seed funding grant, made possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.

Introduction Post:
My name is Christy and use they/them pronouns (#enby/#agender). I live in rural so-called #Lunenburg in the #SouthShore of #Mikmaki/#Acadie/#NovaScotia. I’m a settler who grew up in the Ottawa Valley and my family are #FrenchCanadian and #Irish who come from Quebec. I identify myself with #socialecology, #ancom, #peasantanarchist, and #agrariansyndicalist movements.
I am a #PhD candidate in the School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa, and I hope to finish writing my thesis this summer (#phdlife). My studies focus on #neoMarxist, #anarchist, and #decolonial approaches to #AgrarianPoliticalEconomy and #PoliticalEcology. I am specifically investigating historical patterns of #farmland distribution from 2000 to 2017 in #easternOntario through the use of property transfer records mapped using #QGIS. I am hoping to apply my method in Mikmaki next.
I am also a #garlic #farmer preserving as many varieties as I can. I have training in #agroecology, #organic, and #permaculture approaches to #horticulture. I help organize with my local chapter of the #NationalFarmersUnion and am interested in meeting other radical farmers, #landworkers, #homesteaders, #neopeasants, etc. who are interested in organizing for #foodsovereignty, #localfood systems, and #landback.
Other than all that, I am also fond of #tabletoproleplay, #fantasyliterature, #solarpunk #scifi, #bioregionalanimism, #baking, #wildcrafting, #foraging, #homebrewing, #fermenting, and #woodcarving.

There hasn’t been any grocers in this town of 28,000 people for 15 years. Now a group of locals wants to change that by opening a community-owned greengrocers.
Working with local growers and food producers, it will create a permanent outlet where people can buy local food. Veg will be loose and they’ll stock local and heritage varieties.
Chris Dobbs is one of the suppliers they've lined up: “Over the years we’ve lost the connection between our local farms and our local households, but Carrick Greengrocers is going to tie those back together and get fresh food from farms into people’s homes. Being so close, I can get vegetables off the farm and into the grocers in 10 minutes.”
The project is giving people a chance to become co-owners and raising funds to open the business by June with community shares. If successful, it would be the first community-owned business in Carrickfergus, and the first community-owned greengrocers in Northern Ireland.

You’ve heard of growing your own – but what about growing your own grain, bread, beer and even clothes? Rob Hopkins meets communities planting grains and at the same time, new seeds of community food resilience.
From the community harvest and threshing days, to spin off wheat beers and flax tweeds, developing landrace varieties, evolved to suit local conditions, to rediscovering tradition skills.
