England doesn't have #StateGovts. Yes they have issues but so do #Australia.

When one thinks it over, a lot would fix itself organically if we removed #StateGovt and replaced them with #LocalGovernment.

One thing that would fix itself is the need for a real voice for local #aboriginalCommunities - such a voice would come into effect by default as a result of not only recognising the land's #AboriginalHeritage, but importantly by transitioning some powers to Local Government.

This analysis of the relationship between different levels of #government and the #localGovernment’s power to thwart solutions to large scale social problems and its inability to solve the same made me think of #SanFrancisco and the Bay Area generally, particularly with #housing and drug crises of the moment, not to mention SF’s self-inflicted wound that is our Ghost Downtown. Good read. (Also I know he’s not very popular with the local denizens, but Scott Wiener’s recent interview with Ezra Klein covers this ground with Bay Area and California specifics as well. Worth a listen, San Franciscans, even if you think you hate Weiner.)

Today the Puketāpapa Local Board had a shared lunch after our final business meeting for 2022. We passed unanimously the plan change 78-83 feedback I helped prepare & our Annual Budget feedback that highlighted how cuts to discretionary LB funding would affect local communities- the Mayor's proposed 5% cut to local board budgets sounds small but translates to 47% of our programmes.
