It took me a while but I managed to get a Perseids meteor on camera! I didn't see this one with my own eyes, but clearly my camera caught it. It's hard to see in the expansive star field but there is a streak in the sky at the center of the bottom third of the picture. (28mm f/1.8 ISO 640 15 seconds)

I managed to get a faint shot of the Milky Way last night from Long Island. I’m blown away at how many stars my camera can see that I can’t! I’m only just learning how to edit night sky photos, looking to pick up some tricks to make our galaxy pop!

One of my favourite photos. Stanley Bay, looking toward Auckland city, after a storm has just cleared. The exposure took careful balancing with 3 graduated ND filters.

I used the edge of the rocks in the foreground, the lights on the quay, and the quay itself, to create a leading line toward the Skytower on the horizon.

cityscape at night, photographed from Bayswater on the North Shore. The reverse ND grad is vital for such shots, as it evens out the extreme variation in rightness and dark in the scene.

This was from my early days with mirrorless cameras (the Sony a7R)

And for here's a picture of the Waitangi Waterfall from the Omeru Reserve. This reserve is just north of . A was used to smooth the flow of the water.

I liked the patterned rocks, mosses and ferns in the foreground of the image, which I think, lifts the shot from being just a wall of water.

I'm working on a project tentatively titled "Insomnia." It's about light and motion at night, streetlights, city lights, and stuff like that, but mostly, it's autobiographical in the sense that I'm out there seeing this stuff at 3:00 am. For me, one aspect of being autistic/ADHD, is that I can't sleep at night. I have tried for my whole life to live on a "regular" sleep schedule. Have not been successful. This project is about learning to embrace this difference.

And for today, I have a shot of Karekare Falls, from Auckland's West Coast. This is a tall , easily accessible from the car park about 15 minutes away.

Before the rahui was put on the tracks in the Waitakere Ranges, my goal was to photograph every waterfall in these ranges.
