I'm on the lookout for a local (Dublin) #luthier, or at least Irish, who can make a fairly simple electric #bass guitar. There are plenty of acoustic guitar makers, and a few electric instrument makers that use exotic materials. Ideally, I'd like something light, ergonomic, short scale, headless & affordable. I know about the Bootlegger Ace basses, but they have long lead times and ship from California ($$$). I could try #KrappyGuitars, maybe!
While on the subject of #Guitar have to give a plug to this book on the history and future of timber used for instrument making. Completely fascinating - ecology, history, economics, environment, labour, climate etc. Because I'm average at it I would always worry I was paying too much for timber but now feel I should pay more 🤔 #Luthier #Tonewood https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/G/bo81816665.html
@ShakingStick wonderful article. I'd love to be an amateur #luthier. I made a #telecaster for my son with a neck and hardware off eBay. In my mind it only crosses from tinkering to luthiering if you're doing something technically demanding like building a (nice) sound box, or (accurately) fretting a neck.
