28 followers · 309 posts · Server twit.socialSo it's been about 2 weeks or so with my MBP. I really love this thing; Last time I was on a mac was probably my mid-2010 MBP. Apple Silicon really makes a major difference on these devices; leaving the intel chipset was probably the best move they made.

Der Lüfter ist unhörbar angesprungen und dreht mit knapp unter 1500 rpm, CPU um 70°C. Rendern etwa 3 mal so schnell wie beim i9 2,3 GHz mit Radeon 5500, der beim gleichen Job kräftig pustet. Würde mich interessieren, wie sich der M2Max mit 38 Grafikkernen hier verhält, da ich den 30er gewählt habe in der bisher erfüllten Hoffnung auf Ruhe.

307 followers · 306 posts · Server norden.socialErste Praxiseindrücke vom neuen #MacBook Pro 16 (#M2Max 12C/30C): schnell (wie erwartet, etwa 2–3 mal so schnell wie das i9-Modell aus 2019), Tastatur mit schwarzen Tasten auf schwarzem Hintergrund lässt sich gut tippen, aber für Tippanfänger ist das bestimmt kein guter Farbkontrast. Was sehr positiv auffällt: Der Lüfter ist bisher wirklich "off", und es gibt auch kein Elektronikzirpen, wie es der i9 von Anfang an bei großen Datentransfers zeigte. Design erstaunlich wuchtig.

Last Mac I had was a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro…What a difference.

My first Mastodon post is VERY nerdy. But it is info I can’t find anywhere else. I ran the Redshift GPU benchmark on my Windows PC, Mac Pro, and new M2 Max MBP. The results are about what I expected. Still, M2 GPUs are underwhelming for heavy 3D work.

His advice was upgrade the RAM rather than the processor if you can since the 10-core #M2Pro is already optimised for performance and RAM will likely be the first bottleneck you hit.
Similarly, the main advantage of the #M2Max is its increased memory bandwidth rather than processing power, which is the same as the 12-core #M2Pro, or even the extra GPU cores, which are only relevant if you’re doing heavily graphics-intensive work such as 8K video editing.
In practice, the base model is probably more than adequate for my needs, but since I also intend to use the machine for audio/video production, my instinct was to go for the fastest possible processor for future-proofing. But perhaps that isn’t the right choice. Any MBP users able to comment? #AppleSilicon #noxp
