“Our data support the view that mast cells may promote development of certain malignancies. These findings indicate a need for increased surveillance of cancers more frequently seen in Mast Cell Activation Syndrome patients.

Treatment of MCAS may reduce risk for neoplasia… [and] may favorably influence the course of the cancer, similar to favorable effects often seen when Systemic Mastocytosis is treated in the setting of associated hematologic neoplasia.”

"Urinary excretion of particular acyl glycines is also altered by disorders linked to fatty acid β-oxidation in the mitochondria, including medium-chain acyl-coenzyme A (CoA) dehydrogenase (MCAD) deficiency [54]."

My daughter & I are carriers for deficiency.

Imposter syndrome of the day: Being a not-very-old man going for a bone density scan & filling out the questionnaire.

Mast Cell Disease causes a lot of osteoporosis / osteopenia. I seem to remember it's around 85% of MCADs in *men* are thought to have bone issues. Which is a LOT different from the typical population.

Out of an online group I'm on, I'm the only guy who hasn't had a scan yet. All others have osteoporosis or osteopenia.

(It's even higher for women, IIRC?)

So, IDK who needs to read this but it turns out that are very common co-occurences amongst folks (there is no comprehensive data as to why, I have my theories but those are just speculation)
Do you remember a few years back when plenty of people, mainly allistic autism moms would swear by the fact that causes autism?
Well, when I eat Wheat (again not gluten per say, something else in wheat) besides the dreams and the migraines, my cognitive and social abilities vary wildly, my autistic traits and then in turn ADHD are in full swing, one after another, only interrupted by bouts of depression.

I wouldn't be surprised if that were the underlying cause on account of which so many people fell for the gluten causes autism discourse (which to be clear no, I ain't saying that whole discourse is cursed in a great many ways, but for me and my relatives it does for sure exacerbates those traits)

Hyper-realistic dreams, the kind that feels real-er than any waking moments, similar to an opiate trip really, the kind you wake up from briefly, unsure which side is up and what is reality, flip your eyelids a couple of times trying to understand where (when?) you are and then return to on the spot.
A couple more rounds and I finally wake up, stand up, drink my coffee and tell my partner we should check the composition of the nuts we had as a late snack... And sure enough the nuts where roasted in wheat. Can't make that shit up. Wheat: the strongest drug I've ever known, nothing even comes close to it (and I've been around...)
Filling myself with anithistamines in the hope to avoid the incoming migraine. Everytime this happens I'm shocked I made it through the 1st 20 years of my life of hyper vivid dreams, daily migraines not to mention the ups and downs involved. Today my body feels numb, half-asleep the mind is slow, opiate-likes are doing their thing. Tomorrow or the day after, it will hit my brain real bad, atypical migraine they call it, I'll want to die, then the migraine will recede but my joints will start acting up, I'll be hungry like I haven't eaten in a week and I'll feel depressed, teary eyes for a couple of days followed by 36 hours where I'll be as hyperactive as it get, cleaning time, more verbal than ever, I'll seem, for all intent and purposes as if coked up (which is one of the reason before I got my Dx dr.s always assumed the worst)

Wheat, both the strongest and worst drug known to this body courtesy of via NGL, sometimes I miss these dreams and the way my brain switches gears, but the pain. Oh the pain just ain't worth it.

(All my direct relatives -who share that diagnosis, and are also on the spectrum btw- react the same way to wheat, and I do say wheat because no, it seems, it ain't gluten but another allergen therein contained. This is not a particular common occurence amongst patients, I actually never met anyone outside my family who described that phenomenon, but for us it never, ever fails. If anything this is the best case scenario as in, I'm not in danger, I won't need to go to no hospitals, no anaphylactic shock or organ failure, just the dreams, the pain, hunger and a little added weirdness)

@bookwyrm Hello there, I’m in US & we’ve found the best way to get a diagnosis is to get a Neuro referral & they can do autonomic testing. It’s a series of tests; tilt table, sweat tests, muscle tests etc. Since primarily affects the autonomic nervous system. Most pts also have so an allergist/immunologist helps. But Neuro is best for Dx. I hope this helps. We see Dr Oakley st UW Seattle if you are on the West coast. May you find what you need. ✨

Just got my 5th vax shot (4th booster). It's the updated one.

I'm so fortunate my HaT + MCAS doesn't get in the way. My IgA, IgM, and Alpha-1 Antitrypsin deficiencies mean I need all the help I can get.

I had my 5th session of a few days ago. 🥳

I'm still not sure if it's helping my / symptoms, though. I think it might be reducing them?

(I'm officially taking it for , but more concerned about my scent triggers of perfume & smoke.)

But I have a strange side effect: Instead of running overly hot (as I usually do), I'm *super cold*. It's so odd.

Anyone else experience this?
