An investigative case-study on an MRI accident in which a shackled prisoner *and* guard both entered the MRI scanner room and got trapped against the MRI scanner...

MRI accidents are far more frequent than any official tally would suggest. These are photos of accidents that have deen shared with me in just the past several days!

Brace yourselves, people, for weird questions on Thursday...
Wednesday evening Chicago Med will be running an episode where a patient gets trapped against an MRI scanner by a gurney (a bit 'on the nose' at the moment).
Hat tip to the Lorenza Clausen who alerted me to this.
Two #MRI accidents several years apart, purportedly occurring in the same room at a hospital.
Question for you: How many ‘inconceivable’ accidents need to occur in the same facility before we recognize it as a pattern?

Who in my Mastodon circle works for Kaiser Permanente hospitals in radiology (particularly MRI) and would like to connect with me via D.M. to talk about Redwood City?

This happened last week in USA (details corroborated among several sources, but not independently verified by me).
MR tech on-duty, but not in the magnet room when this occurred (purportedly working on a computer).
Nurse and tech-aide brought patient-on-gurney into magnet room.
Patient thrown from the gurney when attracted / struck the MRI (patient relatively unharmed).
Nurse struck by the gurney and reported to have suffered fractured femur and pelvis.

I’ll step down from my #MRIsafety soapbox as soon as people stop doing things like this (and much, much worse)…

Several days this week I posted messages on Twitter that all began with a sarcastic message about how #MRI couldn't possibly be unsafe, followed by accounts of accidents in which people were grievously harmed.

Anyone interested in #MRI, #radiology, #MRIsafety, and #PatientSafety is invited to check out the series of tweets and the final commentary I posted today (November 11) about the whole exercise.

A reminder that the reason we don't have meaningful MRI safety requirements at the point of care (federal, state, or accreditation) is that MRI doesn't use ionizing radiation and therefore is 1,000% free from harm (</sarcasm>)
