The MYC family of regulatory genes help control cell growth and proliferation and are known to be constantly on in cancerous cells.
Now, researchers at the University of Würzburg have found that these MYC proteins form into spheres under stressful conditions, thereby causing the proliferation.
Destroying them would also likely kill the cancer cell they belong to.
