The new hybrid didn’t change the Mac Portable behavior. As soon as battery power is applied, there’s still random horizontal and vertical lines on the screen and the speaker crackles. Keyboard presses, no change.

Cleaned up the site some and installed a socket. New hybrid installed. This one came from eBay last year (v1.3, apparently 1.4 is now available).

Mac Portable Hybrid removed. Took a desoldering vac, copper braid, and hot air to get this off the board. Looks like some capacitor electrolyte got under the solder mask of the ground plane but otherwise not bad.

On the bench today is my Mac Portable. I recapped it a while ago and continue to prod at it here and there. Today I’m measuring resistance across certain locations to determine if a new hybrid will be sufficient.
