We poopoo a lot on China, but let's also take a second to marvel at what #maglev could bring to North America. The fastest maglev is the Shanghai Maglev, and has held the title for over 20 years now. It can reach 430km/h, covering 30km in just 7-8mins.

@CatDragon @iyalei @femphysics But then again we had "transport ministers" that fanboy #ElonMusk, waste money on #Transrapid - #MAGLEV instead of forcing state-owned #DeutscheBahn to not let infrastructurr fall into disrepair and close-down thusands of kilometers of railway and that think that bs like #Volocopter aka "flying #Taxi" with some fancy #helicopters are a viable way to commute.

Also much larger than what a car could capture (?? maybe), but more feasible than turbines for some locations.

Here the #AVs are, in their super-slow herky-jerky around the track. I think the #WorldsFair might’ve been the first time I’d ever heard of #AutonomousVehicles. As it turns out, the real #Transportation revolution was the #maglev commuter train I’d taken on the way there. I wish that had captured our imaginations with 10% the enthusiasm! 2/
