Mammoth WVH is a name that should be fairly familiar to a slew of the rock crowd by now. The Wolfgang Van Halen-led band seems to be the go-to band when you need an opener on a massive tour in arenas or stadia. Time for an update on my #AOTY2023 list, because there has been some activity.

#KingGizzard received a boost and is a serious contender for Metal AOTY.

#Blackbraid entered very high, but is currently not a contender.

#SwarfDamage from Manx is worth a listen.

#MammothWVH migth get a boost soon, because their songs are stuck in my head since my first spin.

Apart from that some good (3,5*) and solid+ (3*) albums have been added.

You want a brutally honest album review?

Here's my brutally honest review of Mammoth WVH's new album "Mammoth II":

Meh.

You can tell that Wolfgang Van Halen is really talented (I wonder where he got that from?), but still:

Meh.

He should do himself a favour and get a singer for his band (which is only himself if I am not mistaken). He is singing is not bad, but... Meh.

Solid album, but I won't listen to it again. 2,5 out of 5 nice guitar solos.

Prima Modern-Rock-Scheibe mit deutlichem Post-Grunge-Vibe und vertrauten Classic-Rock-Harmonien. Fett ausproduziert fehlt mir etwas Kante, aber das Thema habe ich mit fast allen Bands aus dem Genre. (Alter Bridge, Tremonti, Sevendust … - deren „All-Star-Band“ Projected klingt auf dem ebenfalls 2022 erschienenen „Hypoxia“ übrigens bei aller Mainstreamigkeit angenehm straight.)

Ich kannte das Album ja bereits, und WVH habe ich vor Jahren mit #Tremonti schon live gesehen, aber ich muss sagen, die Live Besetzung von #MammothWVH liefern komplett ab. Das hat richtig viel Spaß gemacht.
