20 Jahre #MarsExpress! 🥳 🛰️

Im Juni 2003 startete die erste europäische Mission zur Erforschung eines anderen Planeten im Sonnensystem aus #Kourou. 🚀 Seitdem liefert die DLR-Kamera HRSC an Bord der ESA-Raumsonde hochpräzise Bilder von der #Mars-Oberfläche.

Zum Jubiläum präsentieren wir ein globales Mosaik des Mars, das in seiner Genauigkeit der Farben beispiellos ist. 🔴 Das Bild ist eine Kombination aus 90 HRSC-Aufnahmen aus 2.500 km Höhe.

Wer kommt mit zum Schneemann-Bauen auf den Mars?! 🔴⛄ Mit Laser-Höhenmessungen konnte jetzt berechnet werden, dass die Eisdecke auf dem "roten Planeten" bis zu 4 m hoch ist. ❄ Dafür wird der Atmosphäre fast ein Drittel des #CO2 entzogen.

Die Messwerte basieren auf ca. 600 Mio. Laserpulsen & 8000 Laserprofilen aus dem Verlauf eines #Mars-Jahres. 📈 Für die Untersuchungen kooperieren Forschungseinrichtungen aus #Europa, #USA, #Japan & #China.
