one year and a tad after the fire, we move on from the rental house we hate to another, that we loved at first sight.
come moving day, we realize all the little things that won’t quite work about it.
it’s amazing how, after spending a year dreaming and dwelling on what home means to you… nothing quite measures up.
Dropped off a plate of chocolate chip cookies at the firehouse down the street. Could not find the words to adequately thank them.

Today is the one year anniversary of the #MarshallFire which destroyed 1000 homes in Boulder County. So much tragedy and yet so much resilience from the #community rallying support. ❤️💙💜💚
Lots of mixed feelings on this anniversary of the #MarshallFire in Louisville/Superior Colorado. Our home survived with only smoke damage. And I am proud to have worked on the #IMT that managed the fire.
Our community is very, very privileged. If this fire had happened in a place with much lower SES, the stories we would be telling right now would be very different (cf. Hurricane Katrina).

I wrote a piece on the #MarshallFire & its geographic, societal, & climatological context. I reflect on the converging crises--including expansion of the wildland-urban interface & #ClimateChange--that facilitated this & other recent fire catastrophes. https://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/environment/marshall-fire-boulder-colorado/

Marshall Fire aftermath. I took these photos of my neighborhood after returning from the mandatory evacuation. Amazingly, our home sustained very little damage.

one year since the fire that took my home and everything in it away. #MarshallFire
Google asked if I wanted to look back on last year's trip to Ft Collins. Why yes, thank you Google. That was our #MarshallFire evacuation fleeing Louisville to stay with family in Ft Collins. :)
Honestly, we need the moisture - do not want a redo of the 12/29/21 #MarshallFire this year!
Another dry December day in #Colorado, and another #wildfire near #Boulder. This time it's #SunshineWildlandFire and evacuations are underway. Here's the local #news:
It's been almost a year since the #MarshallFire and I, for one, was happy letting that clock tick without resetting it with another fire upwind of me. #CoFire

On December 30, 2021, one of the most destructive wildfires in Colorado history took place. It also happens to be the best documented wildfire in state history as well. Cell phone video, security and body cameras, and local news media captured the day as it unfolded. Now much of that video has been mapped and time stamped to help us all understand just what happened and what we can learn for the future. #wildfire #marshallfire #colorado #drought #climatecrisis

Current reading for a paper I am writing about our air quality outreach efforts after the #MarshallFire last year.
Disaster research is really a fascinating field!
Rodriguez, H., Donner, W., & Trainor, J. E. (Eds.). (2018). Handbook of disaster research (Second edition). Springer.
Quarantelli, E. L., & Perry, R. W. (2005). A social science research agenda for the disasters of the 21st century.. In R. W. Perry & E. L. Quarantelli (Eds.), What is a disaster: New answers to old questions.
This is an infill development of a currently unbuilt lot.
And that's a wrap for 2022 planning in #LouisvilleCO a year which saw the city and its finances severely hit by #MarshallFire related planning and building safety and related code issues.
It will be interesting to see if the city gets all the state and Federal/FEMA money that's been promised, 2025 will be an interesting budget year either way.

After 5 months of paying rent & utilities on an uninhabitable house damaged in the #MarshallFire, a week before I’m scheduled to move back in the owners have terminated my lease. This is what renters/fire victims are dealing with — we need help. @pweiser@twitter.com @jaredpolis@twitter.com
