@feedtunes That's a good question. There's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which is more like wrestling and grappling. I'm not sure how much they focus on joint locks for the hands, though. Japanese Jiu-Jitsu is heavier on the strikes and joint locks and is a lot less ground work.

There's also Aikido, which is more about deflection and redirection which might be easier on the hands. You just have to make sure you find a reputable sensei.

Taekwondo is always an option, as it tends to focus more on kicking and ranged attacks. Again, you really have to make sure you find a reputable teacher and it works best if you're taller. TKD has kind of earned a reputation for being a "McDojo" though, so be careful and do your research.

There's also styles like Escrima and Silat that focus more on the use of weapons, but I haven't studied either of those or had much experience with them so I'm not a good reference point.

I dunno, any other types out there have any suggestions?

Doing a Cut Test with one of my students knives. We are using a pool noodle here, because the material is soft, yet resistant and will bend or simple fall over if the edge alignment isn't perfect. Also, the soft foam will capture visual evidence of any edge irregularities as you make the cut. A perfect cutting medium? No, not at all, however, for the cost, it's pretty damn good.

Another thing about me time!

I'm a former . I studied My Jong Law Horn for years. It was pretty high-impact (fractured a metatarsal, broke my nose once) so I took it easy afterward and studied a little bit of .

Years later I took up and Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu alongside and .

Now I'm a lump whose idea of exercise is going up and down stairs. 😉
