Neat: ‘deb-get’ is like apt-get, but for 3rd Party Ubuntu Apps
Most of us are intimately familiar with how great apt is for installing software on Ubuntu using the command line. But chances are there are apps you wish you could apt install, but you can’t. Google Chrome is my main one (hey, I like it, let me be). Every time I do a fresh install of Ubuntu or a derivative Pop!_OS or Linux Mint, I have to go out of my way to go get it. Now, it’s easy to install Google Chrome on Ubuntu: go to the Chrome website, download the latest .deb installer, then sudo dpkg -i install :sys_more_orange:

These AI-Made Ubuntu Mascot Artworks are Incredible
I don’t understand neural networks work, much less how they go about drawing stuff without any hands, but boy am I blown away by the results they can produce. Every Ubuntu release has a codename composed of an adjective and an animal. These cute and irreverent pairings lead to a spurt of artwork created by professional and amateur artists, illustrators, photographers, and graphics designers alike. But open source enthusiast Simon Butcher (who is also head of research platforms at Queen Mary University London, so knows a thing or two about bespoke computing workloads) decided to take a different approach. How to Upgrade to MATE Desktop 1.26 on Ubuntu
Users of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and 21.04 can now upgrade to the recent MATE desktop 1.26 release through a dedicated PPA. The ‘Fresh MATE PPA’ is maintained by Ubuntu MATE developers, and is aimed at existing users of Ubuntu MATE who want to install MATE desktop 1.26 on their systems. However, the PPA (and the packages within) are compatible with all Ubuntu flavours, meaning you can add this PPA to install the MATE desktop experience alongside whichever DEs you use at present (just, be careful). The PPA provides updated MATE desktop components (including new versions of core apps like Pluma :sys_more_orange:
