Today's animal from Glasgow's architecture is this magnificent wild boar on the former Kelvinside Artistic Stationery Works on Herbert Street. The quality of pointing's not quite so good!

The Nolly Brig over the Forth and Clyde Canal by Firhill Stadium in Glasgow, with its mural inspired by Charles Rennie MacKintosh's 1922 water colour called Sailing Ships. The bridge was built with European Regional Development Fund (from the EU) and was opened in 1990. The mural was added in 2019 by Art Pistol Projects.

This bottle dates from some point prior to the takeover of the Scottish Cooperative Society by its English counterpart in the early 1970s, and was the type of milk bottle which was, at one time, provided to every child each day in primary school.

Love the newest tiling added to the Stockingfield Bridge in Glasgow, especially this rainbow. These tiles have been made and installed by Make It Glasgow.

As this markers shows, the Forth and Clyde Canal drops an impressive 156 feet between Maryhill in Glasgow and Bowling, the point about ten miles away where the it meets the sea. This is roughtly the same vertical drop as Niagara Falls. This descent is achieved by the use of twenty separate locks.

Another clay pipe recovered from the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal in the Maryhill area of Glasgow. A few of these are still turning up, and I was really lucky to find this one decorated with a tall ship a couple of evenings ago.

Former Soldiers' Home on Maryhill Road in Glasgow.

Designed by Malcolm Stark and Rowntree, and built opposite the Wyndford Barracks in the 1890s, it served as a respite house for soldiers and their wives. For a small fee, soldiers could rent a quiet room and newly wed ones could spend their honeymoon night there.

Catrine Place name plate on a window lintel on the corner of Clouston Street and Kelvin Drive in the Maryhill area of Glasgow. I love the font, but I'm a bit confused by the name itself as it doesn't seem to relate to a local street.

An initial re-creation of a complete William Murray clay pipe from the Caledonian Pipe Works (1832-1861) in Garngad Hill in Glasgow I've been working based on fragments I recently found alongside the Forth and Clyde Canal in Maryhill.

I've still got some refining to do before it's finished, but as a 'first draft', I'm reasonably pleased with how this project is going so far.

The grand main entrance to the former Maryhill Methodist Hall (now the Maryhill Central Community Hall).

This building was built around 1920, and is thought to have been designed Watson and Salmond.

William Murray set up the Caledonian Pipe Works on Garngad Hill in 1832 and ran it until 1862. It produced pipes which were sent all over the world. I'm presuming all these pipes alongside the canal in Maryhill were lost or damaged and dumped while in transit by canal boat.

Some of the clay pipes I found alongside the Forth and Clyde Canal in Maryhill this evening. My two favourites are in the bottom row: An anchor (middle left) and a face (middle right).

Almost all the pipes have a stamp on the stem saying Murray on one side and Glasgow on the other (second picture). This indicates they were made by William Murray between 1833 and 1861 (or 1891 depending on the source!).

Just some of the thousands of fragments of clay pipes which seem to have been unearthed by recent improvements to the walkway alongside the Forth and Clyde Canal in Glasgow.
