voices from darkness
something miraculous
to have communication
flow across distance
wave by wave by wave

something hopeful
to have ambition
for a larger reality
with more open views
and hope for better

something sinister
for the base values
of those voices
and the voices
standing silent
behind them
in darkness
to never have been
examined in daylight

agony at first
i tune it out
move through
the day
slightly hunched
clenched
as if the ceiling
has dropped
and grown
stalactites
then the chasm
when noise stops
and i plummet
into peace
and quiet

you carried something for me
the night i felt the need
to lie down limp on the hard
wet road with the cars sweeping by

sometimes people ship
too much darkness
to pump themselves
buoyant again
and so your hand, small
gripping mine as you lay
on that gritty cracked asphalt
helping me bail myself out

small, but strong
how the mountain slows its strength
to almost stillness because such immensity
can so easily overhwlem
