What are people's favorite papers on digital gift economies?

Currently have Fourcade & Kluttz's "A Maussian Bargain" - would love to assign this alongside a more ethnographic piece, or a different context for thinking of digital gifts.

Does anyone have good suggestions for readings that make a connection of cybernetics and/or early computing with social media? I.e. the development of the sociotechnical foundations for "big data" today?

Currently using a chapter from Hayles's "How we became posthuman" around the defining of "information" but something that makes the connections more explicitly would be useful.

A terrible case 🤡: a German book with long citations in French and Italian, many, many footnotes, figures, tables. If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere.
