An alternative might be to have centralised transfer process, where potentially being shut down servers get put on a kind of classifieds, seek a new owner who agrees with the servers values & potentially with access to some of the patreon or other money to help that new owner restart? Plus the new owner should at least publish a kind of CV of their community work thus far ...

so #mastodonAU is shutting down? F*** that. I've just moved due to #mastodonLOL. Yes, yes, the only posts you really own are on your own paid-for server...that you don't have time nor money to maintain & that will have 0 reach because you aren't famous & don't have time to work on becoming famous

I mean, most servers have a single owner/admin. You have to try & guess the personality & conscientiousness of yours from a few posts which is all you really see until you join?

1. General-purpose, queer friendly (ideally queer-run), disability and neurodivergent friendly, friendly in general, inhospitable to right-wing, bigots, etc. With lots of cute people. 100-1000 active users.

2. NSFW-oriented, otherwise pretty much the same as 1.
