I was thinking that the fediverse is a much more imaginative place where new solutions arrive from creative people imaginatively working together solving problems with multiple usable available answers.

Perhaps a survey of interests to narrow potential servers, a size question, some moderation questions, and then a random number generator to select the final server.

Some of these exist now.

⁉️ How about this:

Instead of "instance" or "server", we call it "neighborhood".

So when joining Mastodon, you would be asked to "pick a neighborhood". 🌻

Could this make it easier for new users to grasp the concept? 🤔

#MastodonOnboarding I wonder ... Given the decentralised mature of the network what is the delay before a toot from another instance reaches my feed ? Is the fediverse appropriate for alerts such as : tornado incoming, go to the basement immediately
