How does one improve the "reach" of a single user instance? The basic issue is when clicking on a toot from my other persona I regularly do not see many other replies unless I go to the original.

Here on #IndieWeb that's less of a problem. Obviously if I were more interesting and provoked greater engagement this would probably improve on its own. But let's just make the assumption that I'm going to continue to post garbage...

#mastodon #n00b #question: I've noticed that when I DM people here, sometimes the system posts these messages as if they're posts and not DMs, which is a bit unsettling for obvious reasons. I've deleted the unintentional toots & retried DM'ing them a few times but it's still posting my DMs as toots instead of DMs. What do I need to do differently, if anything, to fix this? If I want to change instances, can someone tell me if I need to leave, as in account leave, the instance I am on or just redirect my old instance to the new one I join. I am very confused (I'd be found on both instances, old and new). Genuine question about Mastodon: have you seen any brands join it? I'm curious about what a decentralized platform with organic reach means for brands.

I haven't seen any commercial entities on Mastodon yet and I'm curious if the question even makes sense. I imagine that if a big name considers joining, they'd probably host their own instance.
