It's great that so many people are working on alternative #Mastodon apps, but don't forget the official app is open-source, which is a huge advantage compared to how it was on the other site. When I’m accessing #mastodon via web browser, I can tap a hashtag and then follow that topic. Yet I don’t see the same functionality through apps. I’ve been using the official #MastodonforiOS app as well as #Metatext. Is this an overlooked feature, or am I missing something?

Looking for recommendations for Mastodon clients for iOS. I’m currently using Metatext but I’m curious of other options.

the iOS client makes it really hard to type hashtags and more importantly stop typing a hashtag. also i don’t seem to be able to pin a post with it.

If anyone who sees this uses @Mastodon on #iPhone - I’ve noticed there are a number of apps. The official one hasn’t been updated in 4 months, and is somewhat lacking. e.g. it doesn’t handle threading very well. Though the app is quite similar in that respect to the website in safari (I see the most recent post in a thread as just a “reply” to the person who wrote the post being replied to. If I tap on a reply, I can see the whole thread, but it feels weird.) #MastodonForIOS

App no. 1: #MastodonforiOS, aka the one you probably downloaded when you put mastodon on your #iphone. it’s pretty robust! Reliable push notifications, support for instance-specific emoji like :fatpikachu: , easy to sign up for Mastodon in app, prompts for alt-text on images, all that good stuff. The deal breaker for me is that I cannot add multiple accounts to it — to go to my academic account I have to log all the way out and back in. Plays well with the three instances I tested.
