How Darwinism is changing medicine: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20230905-how-darwinism-is-changing-medicine
<- More specifically how, with the help of #MathOnco, Darwinism is changing how we approach cancer treatment
Games and the Treatment Convexity of Cancer, a new blog post by my Moffitt colleague Jeffrey West about their recent paper by him and @peterbayer

@robjohnnoble I could post again but I felt that the right thing is to repost yours instead. And yes, would love to see #MathOnco using this instead of twitter or bluesky
Registration for the 11th #mathonco workshop is open! Held at the Department of Integrated Mathematical Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida from 29th October to 3rd November. Deluxe travel awards are available on a competitive basis. Aapply by 30th September. http://imo11.eventbrite.com
Loved this Society for Mathematical Biology podcast with #UtahUniversity Elijah Counterman using #MathOnco to study the impact of non-adherence which is what happens when treatment is delivered at times that were not the ones the #oncologist planned for:

Excellent presentation by my #Mofitt #IMO colleague Renee Brady-Nichols where she describes how mathematical models can work with cancer patient’s self reported data to make diagnostic and prognostic predictions. One key result: self-reported insomnia can predict if a tumor is growing after treatment in some cancers
Seminar tomorrow Thursday 29th of June at noon EST by Yanguang Cao, from UNC Pharmacy, with the title:
Lesion-to-Lesion Variation: Does it actually exist, and does it really matter?
Join us via zoom:

@sandy Rafael has worked on a tool called Hybrid Automaton Layer to develop #MathOnco models using agent-based approaches and just look at the work that has been developed using it!
https://journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/article?id=10.1371/journal.pcbi.1007635
Privileged to introduce today #Cancer #Biology and #Evolution speaker at #MoffittCancerCenter, Rafael Bravo (in @sandy's group) describing his PhD work which I am hoping to read soon in the shape of a thesis

My department of #MathOnco at #MoffittCancerCenter has a new and spiffy website: https://www.moffitt.org/research-science/divisions-and-departments/quantitative-science/integrated-mathematical-oncology/
#MoffittCancerCenter #MathOnco
Starting in <10 minutes: @robinsall
talking about #MathOnco and #Chemotaxis in cancer
These and other stickers you can get free if you ask nicely my colleague at #Moffitt 's #MathOnco department Jeff West at #SMB2023 and which are part of the #MathOncoArt series

Remembering Itai Yanai's visit to Moffitt's IMO a few months ago. Cell state dynamics and plasticity in cancer:
https://www.youtube.com/live/PVa9jDlKxUs?feature=share
Was great chatting with Bert Chan (Google Brain Tokyo) and author of #ALIFE Lenia. Thanks to my colleague Jeff West for inviting him.
https://github.com/Chakazul/Lenia
As someone that has dabbled in #Alife myself, one difference with the #MathOnco models we make is philosophical: one can build an Alife model just for the fun of exploring it but most #MathOnco models are designed to be the simples model that can address a specific question
And of course Matt Froid working with @conorlynch and yours truly on cancers in the bone #MathOnco
Exciting visit by Jona Kayser from the Max Planck in Nuernberg who is studying spatial evolutionary dynamics in bacteria with a view to #AdaptiveTherapies and who understands its translational potential for #cancer #MathOnco
#MathOnco #cancer #adaptivetherapies
Last stretch of #MathOnco23 with none other than head honcho @sandy that talks about the #CancerEcosystem and the importance of #MathOnco models capable of displaying emerging properties and homeostasis. Impressive body of work Sandy!
