"Something I like to emphasize here on Slow Boring is that people are often unaware of good news about environmental policy success stories. [...] Last July, Matt Walsh mockingly asked us to remember the dire warnings about acid rain and the ozone hole from when we were kids, seemingly unaware that what happened here is policymakers took those warnings seriously, implemented regulatory solutions, and mitigated the problem."

I'm with @wjmaggos ; #MattYglesias has a lot of insights, and I wish he were on the Fediverse.

Since I don’t want to actually publicly engage with Matt Yglesias or his fellow subscribers, and I keep talking myself out of my one-to-five rating system, it turns out what I do instead is discuss some of his articles at length with one of my brothers, where one of us takes the pro and the other takes the con on a given issue until we find common ground.
That way you don’t have to read the whole conversations that end with one of us saying things like “I would love to live in a world where housing permits were like gun permits: shall-issue rather than may-issue.”

Every now and again I think that it would be fun to post a semi-regular roundup of ideas proposed by Matt Yglesias, along with my level of agreement or disagreement. Not in terms of arguing the details, just a simple expression of agreement or disagreement. Maybe on a one to five scale.
But then I slap myself in the face and tell myself to do something more useful with my time, like count the bristles on my toothbrush, or polish the fire hydrant in front of my house, or learn how buggy whips were made.

Well I did it I deleted the #birdapp from my device a thing I did a while ago with the #faceapp when it became clear to me *that* CEO is evil so well #DejaVuAllOverAgain and like with that one I didn’t delete my account because there are a lot of moments memories history I can’t see just flushing that away.
Anyway, I’ve been liking it well enough here. I like my new little network.
I do miss #MattYglesias ’s takes though. If any of you know him please tell him he needs to come on over.

"I'm six feet tall, so when I meet a woman who's taller than I am it's a rare and somewhat memorable occurrence. There is both a real overlap in heights and also an extremely obvious difference in the averages."
Commenting on #CDC advice regarding #obesity , #MattYglesias writes "None of this is wrong, exactly, but it’s inconceivable that a major public health institution would discuss covid in this way without mentioning vaccines or treatments."
Why aren’t medical breakthroughs in obesity a bigger deal?

My country is far from perfect, but I wouldn't dream of trading the Canadian constitutional system for the American one.

"[M]any people born in the prewar Habsburg realm [...] thought, “this is dumb and everything ought to be reorganized into ethnically homogenous nation-states.” Around the time of World War I, this was seen as very forward-thinking, and the multinational Habsburg polity was seen as a feudal relic. But today, multinational Switzerland is considered a highly functional polity. Canada is a nice place."

A successful politician sees public opinion as it is, and adjusts his rhetoric and immediate goals accordingly. #MattYglesias claims that Mr. Obama doesn't want to admit that he did so.
