I’m reading lots of Hebrew correspondence from the early 20th. A frequent acronym they use for God is השי״ת (ה׳ יתברך). It means “God, blessed be he.” But I can’t help but read it phonetically: hashit, which would mean “the shit.” #hebrew #jewish #Mazeldon #languages #language #god #religion

The question we wrestle with is literalism - are the words TRUTH or just Truth? (I believe the latter.)

Glad to get this, our third copy (https://archive.org/search?query=creator%3A%22Mortera%2C+Saul+Levi%2C+1596%3F-1660%22) of Saul Levi Mortiera's Tratado de la verdad de la ley dey Moseh...up onto the Internet Archive (link in post above).

Mortiera's work was targeted at his congregation in 17th century Amsterdam, which included many ex-conversos, and focused on God's direct providence for the Jewish people (thus negating a need for an intercessor)

@culhebrewmss This one returned from the Center for Conservation of Art and Historic Artifacts a couple of months ago - the starch in the pages had stuck them together so the book couldn't be opened. CCAHA painstakingly conserved the manuscript page by page until it could be used once again. 15th century, Mizrahi hand.

(It is quite different than how our dominant culture imagines forgiveness.)

Each teaching will involve contemplative and soulful text study and poetry that speaks to our themes, as well as discussion and music.
