Chemical Hall at Davidge Hall in Baltimore, MD, formerly known as the College of Medicine of Maryland, opened in1812 and survives as the oldest building in the Western Hemisphere continuously used for medical education. This semi-circular theater gets its name from the brick kiln-like niches built into its front wall where chemical experiments were performed.

“One Night Cough Syrup” from the 1930s, which contained cannabis, morphine, chloroform, and alcohol. In 1934, the FDA ruled that the claims of the cough syrup's therapeutic properties were misleading, and the remaining stock was destroyed.
