Finally got around to patching the hole in this shirt sleeve. I’ve been meaning to do it for… a while. The hole grew a lot in the meantime because spouse will go on wearing things regardless.

I need to practice not pulling so hard when I turn the needle around, but I hope those tiny holes will settle down after washing.

For , here’s an old mend I did on some of spouse’s shorts. The patches are cut from an old pair of pants. I used my sewing machine to stitch them in place. I used a zigzag stitch around the edge, and then I spiraled inward with more zigzag to stitch the patch to the body of the shorts.

This is several years old, and it looks like I need to add more zigzag, but the patch itself is holding up well. It’s not beautiful, but it’s doing its job, and so everyone here is happy about it.

Still need to locate a button for the pajamas, but here’s one last mend for . I have a tote bag, er, lots of tote bags. But here’s a tote bag with a catastrophic rip at a seam. The seams are securely wrapped with twill tape, which means that the fabric ripped next to the reinforcement. Oops!

I like this green pattern on the tote bag; I contemplated cutting it off, but I think I’ll use the bag as a bag for a while first.

Also one of the straps is kind of messed up

While decluttering today, I found my ridiculous flannel owl pj pants, and remembered they needed mending.

The buttons are sewn on with thread that’s stronger than the fabric, so they gradually cut through the buttonhole placket like wire through cheese.

The easiest fix for this is to bind the edge of the fabric, in this case with bias tape. I didn’t do this carefully, so it’s a bit wobbly, the binding is a different color, and the thread is visible.

Darned a sweater. I didn't use my darning loom because my yarn was thin and I didn't want to double it up.

The darn will do, and if I decide I don't like it, I'll embroider something over it.

This week’s mend for is a darn on a pair of summer pants. There was a small hole in them; at first I tried doing an actually invisible mend on them, for the challenge of it. I got halfway, and it was looking pretty good, but it was really hard on my eyes. I need a magnifier for stitches that small these days!

Anyway, I decided to go for a more visible mend. It came out quite acceptably!

I’ve been forgetting my plans. Will set a reminder for next week.

Super proud of myself and my fun new woven patch on my jeans, but less than 24 hours after I finished it, I see another weak spot that's going to be a hole soon. I suspect these jeans are going to be covered in patches before long. Or maybe they will just completely disintegrate 😁

A small lunchtime mend for : small hole in a jersey shirt.

1. I found some thread that was fairly close in color. It didn’t have to be perfect for this. I cut a length of floss and pulled out two strands of thread. I could have used regular sewing thread instead, if I’d had the color.
2. I made a small chain stitch and drew the edges together, without trying to match the gauge of the fabric.
3. I tied the ends together in a square knot at the back of the fabric.
4. Tadah!

Don’t know if I’ll finish tonight, but I’m making good progress on this sock darn for . Using the disk from the darning loom even though I’m doing duplicate stitch instead of using the hooks.

This was a big worn patch and also there were no holes, so it was easier to not use the darning loom.

I was going to do something else for , but then I tried putting on this sock and my toe went through the side.

I fixed the stitches that ran first, and then I used the method shown in the TL;DR link in this post: wandering.shop/@gannet/1098068

I happened to have yarn handy that was a perfect match.

My first pass at it accidentally skipped a stitch because I was in bad light, and so I had to go back and stitch that one in place (no photo of that).

I’m happily wearing the socks now.

I still have a lot of mending to do (I think it’s like dishes and cleaning the bathroom and weeding the garden). Anyway, going to take up again, if you’d care to join me.

Reader, I did not go to sleep. Instead I've got a late entry for

I've been procrastinating on this for a long time because I keep intending to set up my machine. Guess what? I can try it by hand! It's slower and won't be as sturdy, but at least I'm doing it!

I basted the patch in place because pins are terrible and poky and I lose them; now I'm stitching it down around the damaged fabric.

These probably won't fit me when I'm done but hey, they'll be mended for someone's use!
