"There’s a certain group of white men who constantly try to put me in my place, who constantly try to push me back and say: ‘No, you’re not getting any further.’ They don’t want the system to change, because the system works for them the way it should.”
Great interview with the excellent Dawn Butler MP

Congratulations to the family of Daniel Morgan in finally wresting an admission of culpability from the Metropolitan Police. I've followed the tenacity and bravery of his brother Alastair Morgan for some years. He never backed down. I hope he can now have some closure.
Cressida Dick and the other officers should be prosecuted for misconduct in public office. But I doubt this will happen. She literally knows where the bodies are buried.

A group of activists who were arrested at a seven-hour seminar on the theory of protest five miles from Westminster Abbey on the day of the coronation have spoken of their bemusement at what they believe was a case of mistaken identity. One told the Guardian: “They were saying that we were Just Stop Oil and that we were going to disrupt the coronation. And I was just like: ‘Absolutely not’.”

"Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said he accepts the “diagnosis” of prejudice in the force, but would not use the term institutional because he views it as politicised and ambiguous"
I remember the Stephen Lawrence murder and the 1999 MacPherson Report which determined the Met was institutionally racist. There is no ambiguity about the term. It was properly defined then. The politicisation comes from a long line of Met chiefs.

"She recalled one meeting of senior Met officers in 2014. “And they put up on the board that nearly 200 officers were under investigation for sexual assault. I thought, What the fuck are you guys doing? But nobody seemed bothered. I looked at that and went, Jesus Christ. So I do know where a lot of the bodies are buried. They’ve known about this stuff a long time.”
Good article on Betsy Stanko, the eminent US criminologist.

"One of Britain’s most senior police officers is being investigated over allegations he described the “bulk” of rape complaints as “regretful sex”.
Sir Stephen House, a former deputy commissioner and acting commissioner of the Metropolitan police, was referred to the independent police watchdog over the accusation"
The fish rots from the head.

"The Metropolitan police have apologised more than two years after an insurance underwriter sitting in his car outside his home was handcuffed, injured, strip searched and detained in a cell by officers looking for cannabis.
No drugs were found on Tariq Stanley, 30, who believes his race was the reason he was targeted. He said he was left traumatised and suffered injuries to his shoulder and left wrist, which was in a splint for two months"

The Metropolitan Police have apologised and paid tens of thousands of pounds in damages and costs to two young black men who were stopped and searched after officers saw them bump fists in the street and wrongly suspected them of dealing drugs.
..the Met declared that brothers Dijon and Liam Joseph, 33 and 31, were blameless for their ordeal four years ago.."
More confirmation that MetPol is institutionally racist.
