The Lord is my Rock

Scripture likens the Lord to a rock, fortress and deliverer (ref Psa 18:2).
In Hebrew thought, a rock is considered a place of defense. Rocks are extremely strong, solid and immovable; being able to provide shelter to those in need and withstand extremely harsh weather conditions.

David went through many battles before, and during, his time as king of Israel, but he always trusted in the Lord to protect and deliver him from his enemies and troubles.
The Apostle Paul said that the rock that followed the Hebrews in the wilderness, providing them with spiritual drink, was Christ (ref 1Co 10:4).

While our Lord is not a physical rock, these events show the different functions of the Lord when metaphorically referring to Him as a rock.

Upside Down Trees - Dr. Roni Burton
