Very interesting (and open-) accessible #paper about the operation of long-distance fiberlink networks for time and frequency dissemination and optical clock comparisons with a focus on how to address gaps in the data.

I had the pleasure of meeting Anne Amy-Klein on a workshop in Les Houches this Spring, when I was as new to the field of #fiberlinks #metrology and #clocks as I am #newhere now, and I'm still just scratching the surfaces.

I am in the #Metrology [sic] for #Meteorology & #Climate conference. #MMC

Metrology is the science of measuring. Most (rich) countries have a metrological agency, which is responsible for maintaining measurement standards, they know how heavy 1 kg is and how long 1 meter. (Important for trade and science.)

It is a fun meeting, close to 100% about uncertainties. An enormous contrast to science in the media where uncertainties are mostly ignored and everyday science which is half uncertainties.
