“We mortals, men and women, devour many a disappointment between breakfast and dinner-time; keep back the tears and look a little pale about the lips, and in answer to inquiries say, ‘Oh, nothing!’ Pride helps us; and pride is not a bad thing when it only urges us to hide our own hurts – not to hurt others.”

“…what she had to say could wait, and came from her always with the same quiet, staccato evenness. When people talked with energy and emphasis she watched their faces and features merely. She never could understand how well-bred persons consented to sing and open their mouths in the ridiculous manner requisite for that vocal exercise.”

3 good things.
1. Breakfast with friends
2. Stopped work because I felt just wrecked but found it wasn’t too difficult to run a vacuum and steam mop so the house is now much nicer.
3. Donated 4 books to the . May someone enjoy more than I did.
Feeling somewhat lousy so hoping it’s from getting up at 3 am rather than germs…. Hope everyone has 30 good things today! @3goodthings

Am I reviewing a almost thirty-year old BBC serial based on a victorian novel? Yes, yes I am.

The BBC's Middlemarch is bad. There. It has a really good start and it's nice to see all the characters do their little bits, but WOW did they mangle the pacing and the ending.

At least I didn't spend money on watching it (thank you britbox free trial), but I am somewhat upset at the seven hours I sunk into it.

Still reading Middlemarch (less than 100 pages to go!) and have to chuckle how Dorothea’s situation is portrayed as slightly tragic. Honey, you married an old rich guy who died within eight months and you inherited a giant estate, you’re beyond moral reproach of anyone you socialize with, you WON.
