A bittersweet finale on this week's #VisionOn
1999 saw Carlton's mini-network pacakges coming on air. Unlike Westcountry, ATV refused to let their name be replaced.
Thus, the Hearts morphed into the triangle V in ATV, than showing the star. Carlton would be doing a similar thing with HTV 2 years later.

The same triangle pattern on the ident was also used in places like the holding slide, with a bug similar to the network centre's at the top left hand corner.

As Broadcasting Act opened up mergers between regions, Carlton bought out ATV in 1994.
Carlton wanted to make ATV's pres closer to them, but it was harder to adopt plus their goodwill. Hence, ATV could make their pres themselves, but with a Carlton declaration. This was the resulting package, plus the new ITV symbol.

An ordinary #hedge line? Think again. The tell-tale reverse S bend, an echo of the aratral curve formed by the ploughmen and their ox-teams working the #medieval open #fields. The hedge itself, following the grain of the old field-system it replaced, speaks of the slow process of piecemeal #enclosure rather than wholesale and rapid landscape change. The new package introduced some stripey background for some variety, and a potential nod to the old symbol.
A simple gradient background was utilized as promo endboards, alongside some vertical lines.

Had a bit of rest last week... Now it's time for more #VisionOn!
ATV successfully held on to their license in 1990, betting as little as 2000 pound. With the resources saved, ATV streamlined the stripes in their 1993 package.
The new symbol was based on the 1970s AFD logo, formed by EMI and ITC (once owned by ATV).
