"To read Davis on practically any subject was to come away with a sense of awe, and a promise to yourself to learn more about the world, and then do something about it."

One of my favorite Mike Davis pieces "The Case for Letting Malibu Burn." He boldly stated that if rich people are going to build their mansions in fire-prone areas, taxpayer funded services should not be used to save their mansions. In it, he brilliantly weaves how the rich leech off of the rest of society and for climate and equity purposes, we must stop subsidizing their lifestyles.

He was also one of the few public intellectuals that unabashedly supported protest and organizing. It is unfortunately rare for someone to shun the idea that advocacy makes you a biased thinker. It was, and continues to be, really impactful for me, someone who doesn't want to just study the climate crisis but do something about it.

Rest in power and thank you for everything motherjones.com/politics/2022/
