In February I gave a popular talk in the “Math encounters” series at MoMath, New York. My topic was the mathematics of X-ray tomography.

Back home after a short vacation in New York with the wife. Took in a show featuring Samuel L. Jackson, visited #MoMath (the museum of #mathematics), had some proper NYC bagels and pizza, and played one of the chess hustlers in Washington Square Park (and actually held my own there for a bit before eventually getting checkmated). Overall, an enjoyable few days in one of the world's great cities.

Back home after a short vacation with my wife during which I spent an enjoyable afternoon at #MoMath, the #museum of mathematics in #NYC. The exhibits were all hands-on and geared toward sparking curiosity among middle- and high-schoolers, which is understandable; nonetheless, I would have liked to see at least a few exhibits aimed more squarely at curious adults. I did appreciate, though, that the "explainers" for most exhibits had a "more info" option that went into further mathematical detail
If you are a #NYC #Teacher of. #Math and wondering what you might do on Professional Development Day in late January, consider coming to #MoMath. I will be giving a workshop titled, "Cats, Coins, & Creatures." Where you will get experience with three of the Rosenthal Prize winning lessons.
We are easy to find 11 E 26th in Manhattan.
In a couple of days' time I'll be chatting to Tim Chartier at this #MoMath event, which is a book club for teens: http://momath.org/home/tween-primes It'll be online at 5pm ET/10pm GMT this Thursday 17th Nov, and I'll be talking about my book, The Math of a Milkshake.
