This reminds me of a talk I gave at #DebConf 17 about installing #Debian on #ARM based systems and exploring the idea of using a live image for the installer.
https://debconf17.debconf.org/talks/116/
Not a new idea, really, and the #Calamares installer by #Mobian used lacks a lot of flexibility that #DebianInstaller provides...
Still, this may be the first time I actually used a live installer for real and perhaps best of all, I did very little of the work!
Thanks everyone who made it possible!

With a few small bumps, managed to get the #Librem5 booting into a #Mobian installer, and installed with an encrypted rootfs!
So far, only have #Dino configured, but that is enough for this to be a hugely useful communications device, especially with #JMPchat to connect up to telephony networks!
Love the kill switches for cellular modem, wifi/bluetooth and camera/mic!
This is my first #Debian #Trixie based computer, as there may be issues with the now-stable #Bookworm on this hardware.

A bunch of other distros are also close, including #alarm and #Mobian. And other devices like the #Librem5 will hopefully follow soon as well.
This is all without downstream patches (besides in the kernel...), so if you use a different distro which does not ship a working stack yet, please help us by checking what needs to be done and opening issues - and please reach out to me if you need help! :)
A minor upgrade to #Mesa in #Debian introduced some instability for running #Phosh on a #Mobian #PinePhone
Worked around for now by downgrading using #Apt
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/mesa.list:
deb https://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20230117T215416Z/ bookworm main
/etc/apt/preferences.d/mesa:
Package: src:mesa
Pin: version 22.3.2-1
Pin-Priority: 1000
And finally running:
apt -o acquire::check-valid-until=false update
apt upgrade
Anyone know of any bugs tracking this issue?
#apt #PinePhone #Mobian #phosh #Debian #mesa
At first the upgraded #Dino version version was a bit crashy for me immediately after the upgrade...
...but after a reboot it is working well on a #Mobian based #PinePhone so, YAY!
Thanks!
Now I have a Oneplus6 phone, should be easier to fix issues:

Lot of fixes in Lollypop coming soon.

Coming up later today at 15:30 UTC at Capitole du Libre, Arnaud Ferraris asks the question, is 2023 the year of #Linux on smartphones? Talk will be presented in French. Join us! https://cfp.capitoledulibre.org/cdl-2022/talk/DBX3DS/

With the update of @dino to 0.3.1 in #debian, the functionality on small screens such as #pinephone running #mobian ... did not work so great.
The version uploaded to debian experimental, allowed resizing the different parts of the window a little bit, but still often hid useful information...
So I refreshed the libhandy patches!

The "UNRELEASED" repository is signed by my key in the debian-keyring.
Have not tested much, but works for me!
Despite using #bash as my primary shell for over two decades, if I were to start all over, I might consider the #fish shell.
It has been hard to break old habits just getting started though... so I usually switch back to bash to get something done.
Recently have been experimenting with fish shell on a #pinephone running #mobian ... the way fish uses previous command history and potential completions by default really makes for a nice experience even with a limited keyboard!

Small question to the #mobileLinux crowd here (and especially #Mobian people on #PinePhone):
since the @mobian update around June 26, USB tethering suddenly started working on PP <= 1.2 (UBPorts Edition).
This was amazing news for me since I have a 1.2 and *never* managed to get the USB network working on any distro before.
However, what leaves me a bit frustrated is that I've no idea what changed, what fixed it... would anyone know (or know where I could look)?

@awai Congrats Arnaud and welcome! #Debian is the project I've been developing for by far the longest; I joined in 1996! It's run by humans, and therefore imperfect, but over all that time I've never seen anything else match its nonprofit status, wide hardware support, excellent security posture (including automated updates), and wide set of software packaged well.
Looks like you're involved with a number of interesting packages already, too, and thanks for your #Mobian work!
#gnome weather, running on #mobian #phosh #pinephone has no clue what 33 degrees feels like!
Or is it comparing 33 degrees fahrenheit to 0 degrees celcius? That would almost make sense.

@mobian or... since Debian's NEW queue might take some time to get a mobian-archive-keyring package, instead get updated #mobian data into the extrepo package in #debian ?

Recently tried #phosh 0.20.0~beta1-1 from #debian experimental on my #mobian #pinephone, and it has several improvements.
I can now turn on/off wifi from the pin entry lockscreen, see more detailed battery info, and various other widgets.
The biggest improvement is that I no longer accidentally trigger the app-switcher when trying to enable/disable the keyboard, as the app switcher bar is now a swipe-up gesture instead of a tap. Yay!
Nice little improvements, thanks #phosh developers!

Well, finally abandoned the #pinephone #keyboard ... had an issue where the pinephone was not charging and removed it to test without it... and I realized it liked it better that way.
The hardware keyboard and the extra battery capacity was nice, but it was just too bulky and I used it less as a result.
Most applications I used with #mobian worked better in portrait mode, and found myself locking it in portrait mode... but the keyboard was obviously optimized for landscape mode.
