As the French #police have now discovered (as the UK police have too), it's no good putting out a justification for shooting someone, if ubiquitous #mobilephone footage immediately surfaces demonstrating that the explanation offered has a weak relation to the actual incident.

The police have been often able to act with impunity across the world, but increasingly citizen-scrutiny is undermining that position - which is welcome, if the incidents are devastating for victims of the Police's actions

The Unite Union are doing some great work on un-masking the costs of #oligopoly in the UK (which is the character of so many market sectors):

Their research notes that in countries with three rather than four major #telecoms & #mobilephone operators prices are around 20% higher!

Consolidation of markets (which the Competition & Markets Authority is meant to police) is a key element they argue to #greedflation in the UK!

If the mobile phone with its camera had not been invented I would have to carry a magnifying glass around with me. Even then I could not get down to low supermarket shelves or up to high ones to use it. Now a quick snap with my phone camera and I can see the price per gram etc., on supermarket shelves or instructions that are printed ridiculously small.

Observation. My Samsung note 9 is on its last moments. And I have tested phones to try to replace it.

Anyway with 5 other people present I tested my camera and speakers of my note 9 against iPhone 11 pro and 13 pro max and Samsung Galaxy s22+ and Samsung note 10+ 5g and Sony Xperia 5 iv. And n9's speakers were best (unanimous) and colors of the note 9 were the truest (unanimous). It was only a little off in the yellow and orange range where iPhone 13 pro did better.

As #mobilephone & #broadband operators plan for higher than #inflation in-contract rises this spring, given both are now essentially public-regarding utilities, one can only wonder whether instead of blaming #workers for stoking inflation (rather than, actually, merely chasing it to maintain standards of living), the #Tories might decide to reign in the profiteering of the comms firms instead...
