So, wheelchairs have been life changing. Got one at the Field the other day, got one today at the airport, and I feel so much less like shit after each time. I still feel weird and guilty and like I’m faking by taking one, but holy shit I’m not giving this up. #disability #MobilityAids #Wheelchair

Ya know, before I got my wheelchair, I knew a few chair users who were always eating in their kitchens. Sometimes they fell asleep in there if they were really tired and tryna eat. I understood the logistics of tryna roll yourself and your food into a different room was a bit much, but the falling asleep threw me off.
I get it now lol
It's exhausting cooking, cleaning, and then still gotta eat, from my chair

Another case of #CyclingsEasierThanWalking 👍
We ask that #cycles be recognised as #MobilityAids. Not exempting Disabled cyclists from #NoCycling or #CyclistsDismount zones is further disabling them & excluding people with already reduced mobility options from our towns & cities https://twitter.com/SarahFo64595710/status/1614921686830268416

#LongCovid fucking sucks. #mecfs fucking sucks. #SevereME fucking sucks.
Through a bit of trial and error over the past week, I've found out the fun way that I have about four hours of functionality a day, on a *good* day (which usually means #pacing in the days prior, sleeping until noon, and low-movement activities like desk work), and after those hours are up, I can usually be found curled up in a pile of blankets and pillows in front of the space heater.
On a *bad* day, I can't get out of bed. I can't walk without #MobilityAids (I use #canes and #crutches, even just to support myself standing). I have to take off of work because even if I manage to get up, I can't drive. I had to drop out early this year because I had a week of bad days and nearly failed my classes because of it.
I'm only twenty fucking years old. Before I caught #covid, I was a relatively healthy seventeen year old. Now, I spend twenty hours a day in bed just so I can do something that I enjoy for four hours a day.
Get your boosters, wear masks, isolate until you test negative if you catch it, but for the love of all that is good, hope you don't. I've had it five times, and each time, it destroyed me. All it takes is one bad go of it to end up like this.
For your own sake and the sake of those around you, please remember that COVID isn't over.

// Using a mobility aid // Ableism // SH //
Casual reminder that NOT using a mobility aid while you're actually in need, safest, or least probable to injure yourself while using it, is NOT an achievement.
It is internalised ableism, and you can totally let go of that version of self-harm 🌸❤️ USE THAT AID. It exist for YOU to use.
There's no shame in needing an aid, and nothing wrong with helping yourself live life a little easier.

I guess I should do a #introduction post, huh?
I’m Wednesday (I also go by like 300 other names, but primarily Wednesday. Kinda like, uh… “maining” a character in Genshin? Except just a name. You get the idea.) I’m #queer, #trans, and #autistic, and I enjoy #theatre, #cosplay, #drawing, #animation, #music, #animals, and #writing. I also have a #ServiceDog and am #disabled (I have moderately severe #pots) so I often use #MobilityAids.
Hoping to make some new friends here! :)

Mrs. Whatsit and I are getting along nicely. She has given me back something I lost in 2008, my speed of walking. Last night I walked down our hallway at what used to be my normal, rapid pace. I grinned more and more with each step. Today, I couldn't help myself, I ran. Maybe 6 steps, but that's the first time in 14 years.
I wish I'd known what a rollator would give me. I got it for balance, I had no idea it would give me speed.

Please meet Mrs Whatsit. She joins Winifred (my mobility scooter) and my trusty unnamed wooden cane. #disability #MobilityAids
