It was pouring and the Giro hadn't started, so I unwrapped the first baseboard kit and did a dry fit. And so it begins.

The finished article, tested and working. The PCB without the capacitor installed is 30mm long, 9.5mm wide and 6mm high. The capacitor adds about 3.5mm to the length and about 14mm to the height, but if space is tight you could extend the legs of the capacitor and install it close by instead. #ModelRailway #DCC #DCCAccessory

On Sunday I finished the PCB design for this #ModelRailway DCC accessory power circuit and placed an order for 50 with PCBWay. I woke this morning to an email telling me that they have already shipped.

I’ll be keeping ten for myself and selling the rest on eBay or Tindie. Will make more if there’s demands.

Oh, I’m working on another version which supports a flashing light that would be fitted to eg the last wagon on a freight train. I’ll post purchase links once I’m happy everything is good.

Probably the most suitable eighteen wagons for the Tyne Tebay Freight Line because they left Tyne Dock for Consett back in the day

Since I was a lad (a long time ago, in case you're wondering - dinosaurs still walked the Earth) I've had a dream of having a #gardenRailway. I used to get Railway Modeller, or was it #ModelRailway? One of the two. Sometimes both.

Anyway, it was their fault that I became fascinated with the idea of having a railway in my garden.

I've... just looked up the price of locomotives in "G" gauge. I found not a single one under £1000. Not one! Some were over £4000!

Here we go… a circuit demonstrating that you easily leech 5ma from DCC track power. Works without the capacitor, which acts as a power bank. The 1000uf 16v I’m using here provides several seconds of power to keep the LED on so that lights don’t flicker when passing over dirty spots on the track.

I risked my SPROG II rather than my main controller for these experiments. Note to finalise the PCB and get it manufactured.

Started to put my money where my hobby is and ordered the first baseboard on Sunday, budget-limited to a rate of one baseboard / month. Once the 3 baseboards are up the next step will be to order some track.

I'm crap at woodwork so I'm getting some pre-cut pieces of wood and then assembling it myself, absolutely no chance whatsoever of a tantrum.

Planned a fiddle yard for a #ModelRailway.

Counted up the number of turnouts.

Calculated the cost of all the turnouts (and no other track).

Had a quiet sit down.

A times toot to coincide with the official start of the rebirth of an old hobby, as I drag Roach Minimus away from the games console* and off on what is on the family calendar as "Mysterious Outing" to the Southampton Model Railway** Club annual exhibition.

My Dad is coming, because models, *and* my Mum because "it'll be just like old times".
