finally I ended with this stage on my thesis, identifying all this snails on my samples were too difficult because Iโ€™ve never been in this kind of job before in taxonomy, but thanks to Maria Moreno-Alcรกntara I was able to do it because of her MSc thesis material

One of the best belemnite fossils Iโ€™ve ever seen. Perfect for

Most belemnite fossils are just the hard part, called the guard or rostrum. This one includes the ink sac and arms with hooks! Itโ€™s a real beauty. Well, as far as squid-like Jurassic critters go.ย ๐Ÿฆ‘

It is Callotrachia jessiana a species with a ridiculously tiny geographic range. It is cofined to one stand of less than a dozen fig trees that measures 47 m long by 18 m wide. That's it the entire range of this species, which could be fitted on a single football field.

Just over a week ago it rained in Alice Springs, and I was able to go do a bit of spot lighting. Results were disappointing but I was able to see for the first time this little gastropod out and about. ๐Ÿงต

For here is a Helicodiscus snail from . They're about 3mm across, live under fallen logs, and look like little straw yellow tires. I found this one munching on some fungus.

Have also seen in Central Park NYC, New Jersey, and Florida--they're pretty common, but most iNat people aren't looking for them it seems, only 49 observations.

I think the Faeroe Islands/Fรธroyar are the only country to have featured the horse mussel (Modiolus modiolus) in their stamps and I might have to get one. .
